Buyer's remorse?

The boy and I closed on our home this morning. Our appointment was over by noon. One quick change of clothes, a trip to Bloomington City Hall, and a Wally's Roast Beef Sandwich (a Bloomington tradition) later, we were changing locks, mopping floors, and peeling up some funky-smelling avocado green carpeting. So far, we've peeled up the carpeting, scraped up acres of black-and-white asbestos laden tiles, and lysoled our way through the entire house. Note to home sellers: if you're selling your house, please clean out the fridge and microwave before you leave. And that nasty stain in the toilet - we're not impressed. Bleach, people, bleach!

No pictures of the work in progress, sadly. Apparently cleaning product fumes turn me into a complete moron incapable of working the digital camera. Just imagine avocado-green carpeting, slightly moldy, black-and-white tiles, an ancient piano, and several inches of dust and dirt all crammed into a dark, smelly little basement. Now imagine it gone (with the exception of the piano - we figured out why it was there - it's freaking heavy and it's a long way up those stairs. Looks like we're keeping the piano).

To all of you that own homes: it gets better, right?

Oh, yeah, we peeled up assbestos tiles. Conveniently enough, the boy works for Donaldson Company, The Filtration Specialists, so he provided some space-aged breathing masks that were actually awesome. We then plasticed off all ducts and doorways and scraped our little brains out. The worst part was spending an hour with this goofy vacuum sucking up dust off the floor, but the place is CLEAN now. The tiles were already chipped and cracked and scraped up in half the basement, so we had to finish.
